Hounds of the Heartland Mission Statement:
- Assist greyhounds, primarily those that are retired from or
affiliated with the racing industry.
- Coordinate placing greyhounds in loving, responsible forever
homes by an adoption process that is comprehensive; ensuring
a good match for both the retired racer and the new forever
home.
- Provide continuing educational support to the greyhound's
family after placement to support a successful adoption.
- Educate the public about the desirability of adopting
greyhounds as companions and family pets in the home through
our website, show and tells and activities within our
communities.
- Support, welcome and encourage an active, organized
volunteer base of greyhound lovers who share the passion and
vision of finding loving, responsible, forever homes for
greyhounds to live out their natural lives.
- Work hand in hand with other greyhound groups and people
that assist and adopt greyhounds to promote adoption.
- Embrace the joy that comes from helping one of the most
loving and loyal creatures put on this earth – the
greyhound!

Our group takes a neutral position when it comes to the pros and cons of the greyhound racing industry. It is our intentions to work with breeders, owners, and kennel managers in an effort to improve relationships that will result in more greyhounds being donated to our groups for placement as pets.
